Marlborough, MA – November, 2022 – Universal Window and Door, a leading manufacturer of custom window solutions for historic restoration and commercial construction projects, provided the windows for the recent winner of the Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. The Mary D. Stone Apartments in Auburn, MA was recognized as the overall winner and was also  voted as the Best Historic Rehab Development by subscribers of AHF.

Universal provided the windows from its 550 Series to meet the requirements necessary to qualify for Massachusetts Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits (MHRTC) awarded by the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC) through the efforts of Epsilon Associates.The property was developed by Pennrose and constructed by frequent Universal partner NEI General Contracting.

The historic redevelopment transformed the 1920s school building into a 55-unit apartment community offering a mix of  studio, one- and two-bedroom affordable and market rate apartment homes. The building provides 55 units for seniors aged 62 and older, with 45 units reserved for seniors at or below 60% of the area median income (AMI), including a portion designated for residents at 30% of the AMI.
