Lynn, MA

Universal Window and Door and Coulter Construction recently completed a total window replacement project for the historic Rolfe House, an elderly residential complex consisting of 70 units that was once home to the Mower & Brother shoemaking firm. Originally constructed in 1891 following the Great Lynn Fire of 1889 and renovated in 1981, the Rolfe House is listed on National Register of Historic Places. Universal Window, Coulter and architect Garofalo Design Associates completed the $1 million window restoration for building owner SHP Management Corporation with the cooperation of the Lynn Historical Commission.

Universal supplied nearly 400 aluminum historic replica windows to the project, featuring custom arched and square top double hung windows from the historic 400 and 550 series that were specifically designed to match the original 1891 windows. The project was the final piece of a larger endeavor that included an overhaul of the exterior envelope, including the replacement and repointing of deteriorated brick arches and the replacement of a large metal cornice.

“We are pleased to have been chosen as the window company for a restoration project as steeped in history as Rolfe House is,” said Tony Muraco, President & CEO of Universal Window and Door.  “Combining the architecture and elegance of our historic replica window line, while working with professional organizations such as Coulter and Garafolo, served as the key ingredients to the overwhelming success of this project.”

Architect James Blauch of Garofalo Design Associates supplied local publication Lynn Happens with historic photos of the building which can be seen here
